Tolgus Lane
Tolgus Lane presented us with literally a blank slate; a site which required the demolition of existing concrete structures that had become unoccupied and consequently neglected. From here, our client requested two family homes to be designed for the space, respectful to both the character and scale of the neighbouring historical countryside.
Our solution was a dwelling with a single storey facing the roadside, but two storeys to the rear. Ecologically minded, this design reduced the impact on the existing estate by minimising the outward-facing work required. Instead, emphasis was placed on the amazing views to the back of the properties, with extensive gardens naturally integrating the open spaces of Carn Brea into the dwellings.
The builds themselves were spacious, detached three-bedroom homes with separate timber car ports. The open floor plans allow residents to furnish the space however they see fit, whilst naturally orientating around the natural light and aesthetic quality provided by the nearby valley. Externally, wooden decking and fences accentuate the property – highlighting the significant improvement over the concrete panel dwelling that previously occupied the space.
